• Total Alkalinity (Buffering capacity of water) **

• Low Alkalinity  = Corrosion and unstable PH
• Frequency of test = Once a week
(Ask your pool dealer for Chlorine/Total Alkalinity/PH test strips)


** Total alkalinity is the key for balanced water. Always adjust before PH.

Note1: At the beginning of the season, as soon as your shock treatment has clarified the water, adjust the total alkalinity. After a few days you can adjust the PH.


 ATTENTION: 

 At spring start-up: It is very important not to circulate the pool
                                        water in the pool-heater until the total alkalinity and PH
                                        are stabilized.
                                        If you have access valves, you should make sure they
                                        seal tight.
                                        In case where there are no valves to stop circulation, water
                                        pipes should be disconnected from heater and a temporary
                                        by-pass should be made until water is inside the
                                        recommanded Alkalinity and PH level.

Note 2:
            To increase Alkalinity, we must add '' Alkalin Buffer'' (sodium bicarbonate) or any
            equivalent product at the rate of 200grms per 10 000 liters for every 10PPM you
            want to add. This product is not expensive and is available at your local pool dealer.

ATTENTION:  

All users of automatic chlorinators with dry pucks, must double
                                        vigilance for Total Alkalinity and PH control.
                                        This type of chlorine is very acid which cause the Alkalinity
                                        and Ph to drop rapidly, creating corrosive water.
 
 

ATTENTION:  

Salt chlorine generators are not recommended with cupro-nickel heat exchangers.

 

 

• PH (Relative acidity)
• 7.2 to 7.6
• Low PH = Corrosion (Acid)
• Frequency of test = Once a week
• Always check Total alkalinity first (see above)

• Free Chlorine (Remaining Chlorine not combined with ammonia or nitriogen)
• 1 to 3 PPM
• Frequency of test = 3 times a week

• Calcium hardness (Dissolved calcium in water)
• 200 à 400 PPM
• Too high = Blurred water, accumulation of tartar
• Too low = Corrosion
• Fréquency of test = Once a year (beginning of season)

• TDS (Total dissolved solids)
• 1 500 PPM
• Too high = Stains/colored water/ Corrosion
• Frequency of test = Once a year (beginning of season)
• Salinity
• .35%
• Chlorine generator systems using salt in the pool, are not appropriate for Cupro-Nickel heat exchangers.


NOTE: NEVER ADD ACID CHEMICAL DIRECTLY IN THE SKIMMER, AS THE
             CHEMICAL WOULD DIRECTLY REACH THE  POOL HEATER
             EXCHANGER.
